I would like to express my thanks to ALL those who helped make my first organised Trec, I believe, a success. Without the GREAT response I received from ALL those I asked, it would be impossible to have competitions!!

I think a lot of those were paying myself, and especially Dave back for all the times we have helped elsewhere!

I first rode some of the routes used with Carol Williams, with the intention of doing a Training ride there. But it seemed too good to waste!

So off I set to locate a Venue. I had my eye on a few sites, but was surprised when Dave found one, from a man in the pub!!

It grew from there.....months down the line and after many visits to the area, often with the horses in tow, and riding routes often NEVER used, I set about the organising. Carol, Dave, Lel joining me to check that the routes I had chosen were OK. On one occasion, myself and Dave had to double back, on what would have been a brilliant navigational section for the higher levels, due to a VERY boggy bit. This will hopefully be rectified, along with a section of blocked bridleway....with forestry trees. I navigated this on a foot visit to the forest, which is over 13 miles from my home, I was so pleased with my compass work on that occasion....Dave thought I'd got lost, but it took some walking due to the amount of fallen trees, on it.

There are many more routes to investigate within the area, and I will do so with another Qualifier in mind. Possibly in 2012.

The Venue has good access directly into the forest, and with a little effort and thought, I should be able to arrange a L1 & 2 in 2011.

Thanks also to Charlies Stores, Coed y Dinas, Welshpool..who so generously supported the Prizes presented to the winners! www.coedydinas.co.uk/about_us.htm

I quip, also generously donated a Gilet to the Highest placed Newcomer, Eifion Roberts, who has recently started doing L2 Ind competitions. http://www.i-quip.co.uk/shop/1_Le_Trec__Trail_Rides

Are you disillusioned with your four minutes in the dressage, or jumping arena? Not up to 80km endurance rides? Enjoy a challenge, with a good social side! Then this is the site for you! Have you considered TREC?

TREC is a new sport, open to all riders, whether on horse or pony. The basics of the sport is to test the riders skill at safely trekking across the countryside. The competition is a combination of orienteering on horseback (maintaining set speeds - normally trot or walk), plus dealing with natural obstacles which you might meet while on a hack.

The Mercia TREC Club cover the West Midlands, Shropshire, Mid Cheshire and North Wales, to promote TREC, provide training and stage TREC events. Click left to learn more
